It’s easy to imagine how a wish will bring joy to the child making it. What’s not so obvious is the impact wishes have on the rest of the family.
Andrew, a happy 5-year-old who loves Mickey Mouse and being outside, lives with a seizure disorder that is difficult to control. His mom, Melissa, said that Andrew loved everything he did and saw on his wish at Walt Disney World® Resort - meeting the characters, riding the rides (including roller coasters!) and everything at Give Kids the World. She noted that it was a special time for her older son, John, as well.
“As much as we try not to, everything ends up being centered around Andrew,” she said. “John is an incredible kid, who never seems to mind, but it was so nice having everyone dote on John as much as Andrew. He really needed that. And, of course, Matt and I enjoyed ourselves, but the best part was getting to be together for a week with no worries, watching our kids enjoy everything.”
Wishes gives children renewed energy and strength and bring families closer together by transforming their lives as well. That’s the true power of a wish.
