wanted to escape the cold and spend time with her family in the warm sunshine. Despite being diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, a form of cancer, and paralyzed, Erin’s mother, Sue, describes her as a very funny kid who is determined to walk again someday. “She is always able to make me laugh,” shares Sue. With the help of Make-A-Wish, Erin’s dreams of a vacation in paradise came true when the family jetted off to Hawaii.
The entire trip was incredibly relaxing for the teen and her family. Erin absolutely loved swimming in the ocean because, although her legs are paralyzed, she is able to swim on her own using her arms. The experience gave her a sense of freedom that she hadn’t felt in a long time.
At Dolphin Quest, Erin enjoyed a very special meet and greet where she was able to touch, feed, and play with dolphins in a shallow water lagoon. She also had a thrilling and memorable experience parasailing over the sparkling blue Pacific Ocean. But most of all, Sue notes, the family loved being able to just sit and relax with each other. Everyone has such crazy schedules at home that it’s often hard to be in the same place at once.
“This trip has definitely given Erin a sense of hope that one day she can return to Hawaii,” says Sue. She is so grateful to Make-A-Wish for giving her family the opportunity to embark on the trip of a lifetime together.
