Three-year old Ella
has spent much of her life in the hospital. She has gone through a great deal in her young life as a result of her leukemia diagnosis. One thing that has always put a smile on her tiny face, however, is Mickey Mouse. She’d often watch the Mickey Mouse Clubhouse show on television from her hospital bed and according to Ella’s mom, Nicole, it always made her little girl giggle. So, when it came time to make a wish, Nicole and Ella thought it should be to visit Walt Disney World® Resort. Boy, were they right!
Ella went with her mom, dad, and 8-year-old brother. Nicole says, “It was a time to heal as a family; to just forget about everything. We were all together and it was wonderful.” She says it was nice to just be silly. A highlight of the trip was watching little Ella have a mid-day dance party with Mickey, Minnie and her other favorite characters. “For me, as a mom, it felt good,” Nicole shares. “Ella has spent most of her life with doctors and getting procedures. It was incredible seeing her be a little girl just dancing and letting loose.”
The entire trip was very special, but Nicole reveals that, without a doubt, her favorite part was when little Ella first met Mickey Mouse. She ran up and hugged him with all the strength of a 3-year-old. As Ella laughed and danced, her mom cried tears of joy. It had been a while since they had felt that kind of joy. The joy of being all together as a family. The joy that comes with genuine, sweet smiles. The joy that can come from a wish.
