We sat down with two champions of the T.L. Cannon Management Corporation – President, John Perry and Executive Director of Operations, Gary Landers. Both leaders are proud and passionate about their involvement with Make-A-Wish and talk about the importance of this cause company-wide.
When our partnership with Make-A-Wish first started, we didn’t fully understand the true essence of the mission until we began to see the impact of wish celebrations in our restaurants for families going through the struggle of a critical diagnosis. The passion the associates and managers have after seeing the outcome of their efforts is inspiring. Many of our locations have their own fundraisers and host wish families. It’s self-initiated because they feel so good about the work they are doing. They know they are truly helping to heal the spirits of these children and their families.
Personally, ten years ago, the child of a good friend was a Make-A-Wish recipient and knowing how the wish helped them heal as a family unit really solidified the belief for me that this is what I am meant to be doing. I am proud to say that we were recognized nationally for all we do in our neighborhoods. Make-A-Wish speaks loudly to every single one of us at Applebees / TL Cannon.
Make-A-Wish represents HOPE. Wishes offer a glimmer of hope to families that everything is going to be okay. It helps them get through it all. The golf tournament in Rochester that I help to host has brought in more than $300,000 for wishes. It’s unbelievable to know that we, together as a team, are helping to make lives better through the power of wishes.
A few years ago, I met a gentleman named Isaiah who wished to meet Cat Woman – actress Halle Berry – as a young teen. He told us his story, and it was so heartwarming to witness his strength in battling a lifelong critical illness. Make-A-Wish has changed me, and it’s changed my colleagues…just as much as it’s changed the individuals on the receiving end of a wish.
